Could any brand within RVs be more iconic, more recognizable, more of a household name, than Airstream? With just shy of 100 years of experience creating campers that have made memories across generations, Airstream has made it well to the 21st century and for good reason. Our 2021 Airstream Interstate 19 is not a classic, it’s certainly not iconic, but to call it luxurious would be an understatement. The list of standard factory options is so long it should’ve come with an index and glossary, a whole page of the brochure is nothing but included options and specs. Everything was thought of, no expense spared, no stone left unturned, and not an inch of space wasted.

To the untrained eye the exterior may just look like a very nice limo van, and could you blame them? The whole package is only a mere 19.5 feet long by just over 6.5 feet wide, and less than 10 feet tall. Within that footprint you can still sleep up to three and pets comfortably, use the full bathroom and kitchen, relax, and dine. All inside of less than 150 square feet of space. That’s on top of being able to park this chariot in nearly any spot you want and nimbly maneuver both on and off the beaten path.

The aforementioned outside of this beauty isn’t flashy by any means, it’s a gleaming silver Class B motorhome on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis with no vinyls or decals to speak of. The factory Iridium Silver stands alone. It does however bear the bold Mercedes three point star on the front, back, and wheels, alongside the gleaming namesake. Enormous windows dominate every side of this beauty; the access panels and ports on the exterior blend effortlessly into the chrome and silver trim subtly giving the entire camper that seamless Airstream look and feel. The Interstate also boasts a full size awning perched on the roof, an underbelly propane tank with easy fill access, and a whisper quiet propane generator.

Piloting the motorhome is a breeze, the sweeping windshield and low profile A pillars give you all the visibility you need, alongside the litany of factory options, touch screen info-tainment system and onboard maintenance monitor, what more could you ask for? The coach on this touring machine offers one a warm welcome with the automated entry step and sliding door. Controls for everything are at your fingertips, almost all of which can be found at the two touch screen panels. The first and only door inside the Airstream is to the all in one bathroom, done extraordinarily well compared to some other Class B’s on the market today. Over and underhead cabinets are everywhere they can fit with a surprising amount of space. The kitchen island hosts a sink and two burner stove right next to the coach door for easy ventilation. They even made the room for a 12V refrigerator and freezer, which will run longer thanks to the 250 watt solar panel.

The real highlight of this unit is in the rear, during the daytime it can be a dinette that’ll seat up to 4, or a couch and lounge area with the wall mounted TV. At night every seat is motorized to fold down into a spacious full size bed you can snuggle up in, sheltered by the motorized window shades, and comforted by the furnace or rooftop A/C.

Words and pictures only do this gem so much justice, while they’re nice and welcomed the joy of the Airstream Interstate 19 isn’t in all the options and features.
